Electrical & Computer Engineering of University of Maryland |
|
I was dispatched to ECE (Electrical & Computer Engineering) of
University of Maryland as a short stay research worker from October to November at 2006.
My research was the development of a new matrix solver for LSI circuit simulation as the application of the new solution PSM of huge linear equations.
Since my stay was restricted very much, I was very busy every day. But I could spread my idea and viewpoint through discussion with other researchers and students in the laboratory. As a result, I developed a new solver which has
a target performance. I visited other laboratories of LSI design, it became helpful very much.
UMD is suburbs from Washington, D.C. and is very convenient. The
circumference of a university is very widely beautiful. It is the highest environment for researcher. |

Max Planck Institute for Molecular Plant Physiology |
|
I stayed in Max Planck Institute in Germany, from Oct until Dec 2006, for three months. I belonged to Bioinformatics group and studied the new thesis at the Institute. This was first time to live abroad. It was very hard for me to live alone because I needed to learn German language and cook by myself using European ingredients. However, I got great valuable experiences in my staying because of meeting some people, getting the opportunity of presentation about my research and continuance of my research at Max Planck after going back to NAIST. I have to reduce my experiences to my laboratory in NAIST. |

Universite cathorique de Louvain, Belgium |
|
I stayed Universite cathorique de Louvain at Louvain-la-Neuve in Belgium
from September to November, 2006 as an internship.
I worked on a subject
for compressing and decompressing stereo image pairs. Stereo image pairs
are used in 3D cinemas. Recently, 3D cinema using stereo images has gathered
more and more attention. However, stereo images have too large amount of
data to distribute over the network. I utilized the differences between
the pair of images for the compression method.
In the laboratory there are
many people from different countries and they speak multiple languages.
I could know various cultures and customs. I want to make use of this experience
for both developing my research and studying English. |

University of Joensuu, Finland |
|
I stayed in the University of Joensuu in Finland from July, 2006 to March, 2007 as an exchange student.
In my laboratory, color science was actively studied, and I worked on a subject for spectral image mosaicing for multiple images measured in several batches. Though I had many difficulties in discussing technical terms, changing to a new theme different from the one I had in Japan and writing the paper in English, I finally achieved a satisfying system. I received a broader view of things and became more interested in various other fields through daily conversation with many exchange students from various countries, so my stay in Finland became a precious experience.
Because of this experience, I would like to improve my English even more and make use of it in my future activities. |

SICE-ICASE International Joint Conference 2006 |
|
I participated in SICE-ICASE International Joint Conference 2006 which was mostly related to control theory.
And it had been held in international conference hall, BEXCO located in Pusan in South Korea in October, 2006.
I presented about the design method of the Delay Feedback Controllers in the session that treated the control
technique of H control, and I had the essential questions and comments from famous researchers.
Then, since I can hardly ever listen to the presentation of famous researchers usually, it became a very
valuable experience for me.
And I was impressed by depth of attendee's view by exchanging the researcher with the opinion, and it motivated me.
Finally, I wish to express my gratitude to graduate school GP for capital help to this opportunity. |

The 13th Asia Pacific Software Engineering Conference (APSEC2006) |
|
From 6th December through 8th December, I attended APSEC2006 (The 13th Asia Pacific Software Engineering Conference) in Bangalore for presentation of our study. Bangalore is a center of IT industry in India, and APSEC is the leading international conference that widely treats software engineering topics in Asia-Pacific region.
I presented our study at 3rd day. Since it is my first-time presentation abroad, I got so nervous, however, the audience earnestly listened to my presentation, and I had so many questions in spite of my poor speech of English. On the whole, the conference went off in a friendly atmosphere. Though there are some accidents such as blackout while a session in the 1st day, the conference was finished without a hitch. I learnt a lot from the participation, and I advance our research in a positive way and make opportunities of presentation. |

The Fifth Asia Pacific Bioinformatics Conference 2007 (APBC2007) The University of Hong Kong |
|
I participated APBC2007 (The Fifth Asia Pacific Bioinformatics Conference) held at the Hong Kong university on 15-17 of January, 2007.
It was my first experience to go abroad, to participate an international conference and to use English as a medium of communication. I talked with foreign researchers at lunch break time but I couldnft explain enough technically important points to foreign presenters. It was a very embarrassing experience. I heard the oral sessions and I felt that to get the question from the audience, the presenter should speak very fluently.
Through the experience of this time, I again recognized the importance of learning English. So if I get a chance to go and study abroad, I want to take the challenge of acquiring skill in English that can be used all my life.
