  Study Abroad

Electrical & Computer Engineering of University of Maryland
SR7.gif I was dispatched to ECE (Electrical & Computer Engineering) of University of Maryland as a short stay research worker from October to November at 2006.
My research was the development of a new matrix solver for LSI circuit simulation as the application of the new solution PSM of huge linear equations.
Since my stay was restricted very much, I was very busy every day. But I could spread my idea and viewpoint through discussion with other researchers and students in the laboratory. As a result, I developed a new solver which has a target performance. I visited other laboratories of LSI design, it became helpful very much.
UMD is suburbs from Washington, D.C. and is very convenient. The circumference of a university is very widely beautiful. It is the highest environment for researcher.

Max Planck Institute for Molecular Plant Physiology
SR10.gif I stayed in Max Planck Institute in Germany, from Oct until Dec 2006, for three months. I belonged to Bioinformatics group and studied the new thesis at the Institute. This was first time to live abroad. It was very hard for me to live alone because I needed to learn German language and cook by myself using European ingredients. However, I got great valuable experiences in my staying because of meeting some people, getting the opportunity of presentation about my research and continuance of my research at Max Planck after going back to NAIST. I have to reduce my experiences to my laboratory in NAIST.

Universite cathorique de Louvain, Belgium
SR13.gif I stayed Universite cathorique de Louvain at Louvain-la-Neuve in Belgium from September to November, 2006 as an internship.
I worked on a subject for compressing and decompressing stereo image pairs. Stereo image pairs are used in 3D cinemas. Recently, 3D cinema using stereo images has gathered more and more attention. However, stereo images have too large amount of data to distribute over the network. I utilized the differences between the pair of images for the compression method.
In the laboratory there are many people from different countries and they speak multiple languages. I could know various cultures and customs. I want to make use of this experience for both developing my research and studying English.

University of Joensuu, Finland
SR16.gif I stayed in the University of Joensuu in Finland from July, 2006 to March, 2007 as an exchange student.
In my laboratory, color science was actively studied, and I worked on a subject for spectral image mosaicing for multiple images measured in several batches. Though I had many difficulties in discussing technical terms, changing to a new theme different from the one I had in Japan and writing the paper in English, I finally achieved a satisfying system. I received a broader view of things and became more interested in various other fields through daily conversation with many exchange students from various countries, so my stay in Finland became a precious experience.
Because of this experience, I would like to improve my English even more and make use of it in my future activities.
