Paper summary

The increasing number of cataract sufferers is a serious problem because cataracts are a leading cause of blindness in the world. To avoid blindness from cataracts, we need to detect them early. However, in developing countries which have limitations in terms of health facilities,it becomes a problem. To solve these problems, we propose a simple cataract screening system. Our system uses a low-cost and easy-to-use equipment such as compact digital camera. We extract all information inside a pupil such as Specular reflection and texture appearance. The result
shows that our system has a good performance. In this conference, we emphasize how to implement our system in real conditions by giving a recommendation for acquiring appropriate image data while taking a photograph so that our system will work well.

Overview of the conference
In this conference, I found a paper which has very close relations with our research . This is a paper titled " Experiences in Telemedicine and e-Health Implementation in Indonesia " presented by Prof. Soegijarjdo Soegijoko from Institut Teknologi Bandung. This paper describes about his experiences in the development of telemedicine in Indonesia. The ultimate goal of his research is to improve the quality life through improving the Community Health Centre in Indonesia. This is closely related to the main purpose of our research, we developed a cataract screening system dedicated to developing countries which have limitations in health facilities. If our research can be integrated with the telemedicine system developed by Prof. Soegijardjo, it would be a good collaboration to improve health services to communities in developing countries, especially Indonesia.

Opinion exchange

We get a very good response from several participants, including some ophthalmologists who deliberately present in
the presentation of our research. They provide some feedback and comments in developing our research, also they
promised to help us if we have difficulties in doing our research. Hopefully, in the future we can have a formal
cooperation in applying our research in Indonesia.
