| 題目(Title) | Computational long-range imaging and vision through atmospheric turbulence |
| 概要(Abstract) | Long-range imaging (>0.5 km) can be challenging due to the presence of atmospheric turbulence which causes optical distortion and blur. These effects are caused by changing meteorological conditions and the chaotic fluid motion of air which causes spatiotemporal changes in the refractive index of the media, resulting in the bending of light rays as they propagate. In this talk, I will discuss the challenges of imaging and computer vision at long ranges through atmospheric turbulence, and present physics-based computer vision, graphics and machine learning to estimate turbulent conditions, simulate turbulent images optically, and finally develop algorithms to mitigate the effects of turbulence for improved imaging and computer vision. I will conclude by outlining remaining challenges in the field and potential future avenues of research. |

| 講演者紹介(Introduction of Lecturer) | Dr. Suren Jayasuriya is an associate professor at Arizona State University (ASU), jointly appointed in the School of Games, Arts, Media and Engineering (The GAME School) and the School of Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering (ECEE) since 2018. His research interests range from computational cameras, computer vision and graphics, acoustical imaging, machine learning and sensors. In addition, Dr. Jayasuriya is a visiting associate professor at Chiba University from 2026-2027, and received the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) of Japan Foreign Researcher Invitational Award for summer 2026. Before ASU, Dr. Jayasuriya was a postdoctoral fellow at the Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon University from 2016-2017. He received his Ph.D. in ECE at Cornell University in 2017 and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 2012 with a B.S. in Mathematics (with departmental honors) and a B.A. in Philosophy.
