title: Integrative analysis of genome and secondary metabolites analysis in Monascus species.
abstract: Red yeast rice(RYR) fermented rice by Monascus species which has been eaten in Japan, China and Taiwan. Secondary metabolites produced by Monascus reported pharmacological activity. Monacolin K, citrinin, and azaphilone pigments were known to the Monascus’s secondary metabolites. Monacolin K reduces cholesterol in the liver by inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase. Citrinin has been reported to cause nephrotoxicity and cancer. To use red yeast rice that does not contain citrinin but contains monacolin K for healthy. In this study, three Monascus species (M.pilosus NBRC4520, M.ruber NBRC4483, and M.purpureus NBRC4478) revealed genome by next-generation sequence and secondary metabolites analysis by LCMS. This result is considered to contribute to the understanding of red yeast rice as a food.
