title: AR YOKAI: A Situated Augmented Reality Ghost Story
abstract: In this research, the aim is to clarify whether the strength of relevance between the AR and the real environment will make the content experience of players more attractive. AR is a technology which displays virtual images on the real world. Recently AR contents are increasing steadily. However, there are very few contents that make AR feel like a continuation of the real world. Thus, we define the strength of connection between AR and real environment as one evaluation axis and investigate the influence on user experience.

title: Evaluation of the Impact of the Image Plane Model on Automatic Optical See-Through Head-Mounted Display Calibration
abstract: AR applications using Optical See-through Head Mounted Displays (OST-HMD) require calibration to ensure consistency between computer graphics (CG) and real-world scene. This calibration is usually done manually by the user or automatically through eye tracking. Although automatic calibration does not require user interaction and should be preferred, it results in a larger projection error due to eye tracking errors and incorrect models of the virtual image plane. In this research, we investigate how different models of the virtual plane contribute to the error of automatic OST-HMD calibration. We aim to investigate if there is a single ideal virtual-image plane model, or if a different model should be used for different OST-HMDs.

Title: Towards an Augmented Reality Large-Scale Massive Multiplayer First Person Shooter Game
Abstract: In this research, we aim to create a system in which several simultaneous users can experience Augmented Reality (AR) content, within large scale (e.g. City Wide) environments. We create this system with the purpose of introducing Augmented Reality to the masses in the form of a Large-Scale Massive Multiplayer Game. We believe this entertainment platform will be the best way to make AR entertainment mainstream. Our core contribution is the creation of the first large-scale system capable of mass multi-user simultaneous AR interactions in a global co-ordinate system. From this we aim to make an AR game which is both large-scale and high fidelity. There are several technical research and design challenges which make up this core contribution. The most significant is the localization problem: how do we localize then track the pose of a user (including peripherals) in a large-scale environment. We also define what design changes are needed before AAA gameplay can suit AR contexts, which includes deployment of convincing Augmented Reality.

title: Measurement and control of Brownian motion of an optically trapped particle in an optical tweezers
abstract: Optical tweezers utilize radiation pressure to capture and to manipulate small particles under a microscope without contact and damage. As a problem during operation, a captured particle sometimes falls from the trapping spot because of Brownian motion. To solve this problem and to improve capture and operation accuracy, we need to analyze and to control Brownian motion of particle in an optical trap. In this study, we propose real-time motion analysis of Brownian motion of a particle in an optical trap based on machine learning. We plan to implement a 16-segmented photodiode into our optical system; therefore, before doing that, we investigate detection capability with several machine learning methods to analyze particle position from 16 pseudo signals made from microscopic images of a particle. In this talk, I will describe the proposed method and the verification result.

title: Prediction of allergenic cross-reactive proteins by clustering method

abstract: Allergy is one of the most common disease in developed countries. Allergen is a protein that causes allergenic reaction. Allergic reaction is also caused by a protein which is similar to an allergen. This phenomena is called cross-reaction. Cross-reaction is difficult to find. In this research, we are trying to predict allergen cross-reactivity using clustering method.

title:Synthesis of Alcaloids in Synthesis
abstract:Papaver somniferum is known that a chemical produces an organic compound that contains a nitrogen atom called an alkaloid. However, there are many unclear points on how poppies are biosynthesizing alkaloids. Therefore, in this study, we aim to identify genes related to poppy alkaloid synthesis, comparative analyzes of genetically modified Papaver somniferum and Papaver orientale genes that do not produce poppy, alkaloids of wild type producing alkaloids. This research is expected to gain knowledge for efficient production of genetic engineering, including genetic recombination.

title: Classification of compounds based on subring skeleton

abstract: Secondary metabolites are defined as a group of natural compounds that are not directly involved in growth, development or reproduction of organisms. The term 'secondary' in the context of metabolic pathways, was introduced in 1891. The functions of secondary metabolites are related to their prevalent potent biomolecular activity acquired in evolution process involving pest and pathogen defense, UV-B-sunscreens etc. The classification of secondary metabolites taking chemical structure and metabolic pathway into consideration could provide important clues to activities of metabolites which lead to interpretation of function acquisition mechanisms of secondary metabolites in evolutional process. In the present study, we examined whether or not classification of alkaloids by ring skeletons can be related to metabolic pathways.

title: Obtaining detailed time-use data using a mobile robot
abstract:Improving the quality of life in our daily life is very important. Time-use data is efficient for analyzing the intention of our activities. The time-use study is drawing attention in home economics. The study handles many kinds of activities at home. But in spite of the importance of simultaneous activities, such activities are out of scope. In this research, we propose a method for obtaining detailed time-use data including simultaneous activities using a mobile robot. Unlike the fixed sensors, the mobile robot can control the viewpoints to improve the recognition of the activities, such as face orientations and manipulated objects. We describe the result of preliminary experiments obtained from the fundamental components implemented on an actual mobile robot.

title: Human-Safe and Robot-Efficient Local Path-Planner for Mobile Robot in Dynamic Human Environment
abstract: The dissemination rate of service robots has increased in recent years. The robots are supposed to move in dynamic human environments such as shopping malls, airports and hospitals, and it is essential to keep human safety by avoiding collision between human and robot. For a mobile robot moving in a dynamic human environment, there is a problem called "freezing robot problem". To avoid this problem, it is necessary for mobile robots to avoid collision with human and move efficiently. In order to achieve human-safe and robot-efficient navigation, this research proposes a new local path-planner using the heuristic approach based on a pedestrian proxemics model and the analytical approach based on human behavior estimation and the possibility of collision.

title: Shape estimation by decomposing thermal radiation
abstract: Most shape estimation methods, such as photometric stereo and time-of-flight, employ the nature of light. However, it is hard for the methods to estimate the shape of black, transparent, and translucent objects. Therefore, we propose a shape estimation method using thermal radiation because most objects, even black and transparent, absorb and radiate heat. It is generally known that an intensity of thermal radiation from a surface point depends on the surface normal direction. By decomposing the thermal radiation from an observation, we estimate the normal direction. In this presentation, we show how to decompose the thermal radiation and a feasibility of shape estimation from the decomposed result.
