Order out of disorder: Putting together functional
nanoelectronic systems
概要
As we start approaching the limits of top-down fabrication
methodologies in our quest for smaller, more efficient circuits,
self-assembly nanotechnologies provide an exciting new opportunity,
enabling high densities and performance speedups. While their
potential is high, all the proposed nanotechnologies share a number
of challenges, interconnect and control localization and
emphatically, reliability of components, questioning our traditional
ways of building systems. In this talk, we outline computational
approaches, with a particular emphasis on tackling the fault
tolerance wall in nanoelectronics to ensure working systems which do
not sacrifice the significant gains expected of nanosystems in the
process of imposing order. The techniques outlined include reliable
arithmetic components in multiple nanotechnologies, fault tolerant
processing units, and systems of high parallelism.
